Frieda Rowland MArtTh AThR

Masters Trained and Registered

Frieda Rowland is a Masters-trained Art Therapist (Master of Art Therapy, La Trobe University) and a professional member of the Australian, New Zealand and Asian Creative Arts Therapies Association (ANZACATA).

Professional Experience

Frieda has experience supporting children, young people, adults, and couples across a range of settings. This includes:

  • in a specialist school for autistic children, where she developed a welcoming, neuro-affirming program that accepted children as they are, explored their interests, and built emotional and social skills.
  • within a family violence service, supporting children, parent–child dyads, adults, and groups  to safely process the impacts of complex trauma.
  • in a community setting with couples and has designed Listening Lines, a gentle art therapy approach that uses shared mark-making to help partners slow down, feel heard, and strengthen  how they listen to each other.

Therapeutic Approach

Frieda offers a warm, person-centred,  and evidence based therapeutic approach. The therapeutic relationship is grounded in safety, respect, and collaboration. Her approach prioritises building rapport and supporting clients to develop insight, emotional regulation, and self-understanding through creative process, rather than relying solely on verbal expression.

Client Focus

Frieda supports children, young people, adults, and couples experiencing anxiety, depression, emotional regulation difficulties, relational challenges, and the impacts of trauma. She particularly enjoys working with children and with people who are autistic or have ADHD, whether formally diagnosed or self-identified.

Age Range

Frieda works with children, young people, and adults aged 5 years and above. If you are seeking support for a child under five years, you are very welcome to get in touch to talk things through. For children who have not yet started school, sessions are offered with a parent or caregiver present to support safety and connection.

What to Expect

Frieda works in a flexible and collaborative way, adapting each session to your needs, pace, and preferences. Sessions may include art-making, gentle conversation, or quiet reflection, depending on what feels most supportive in the moment. No art skills or experience are needed, and  Frieda does not interpret or analyse artwork. Instead, the focus is on the meanings, experiences, and reflections that each client brings to their own creative process. Clients are always free to choose the art materials they prefer and how they participate.
